Post graduation, he decided to follow his heart and moved to Mumbai with stars in his eyes, and the rest, as they say, is history.
He took up acting classes and went to several auditions till he broke through with Ramanand Sagar's "Aankhen," a daily soap on Doordarshan, where he played one of the undercover agents. His big break came in 2006 when he bagged the role of "Kshitij" in Balaji Telefilms' famous serial, "Kkusum," featured on prime-time Sony network, which was prevalent in almost every NRI's home overseas. Amit also won his first Best Actor award for the same. His global fan-base grew as he essayed this sweet lover boy on screen, due to which Balaji gave him his other big break with Star Plus's path-breaking serial, "Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi," which changed the face of Indian television back then. It was one of the first singing-based reality shows where celebrities were trained to compete with one another. After weeks of training and singing, Amit finally emerged the winner of the show. There was no stopping Amit's television career now and he got offers from the biggest productions houses thereafter. With Ztv's "Rishton Ki Dor, " and Aruna Irani's "Doli Saja Ke," Amit sealed his position as a top-notch television celebrity. Fed up of his chocolate-boy image, Amit ventured on the road less traveled and played a negative role for the first time his career in Ztv's "Pavitra Rishta" and, surprisingly, was received very well with the audiences. Amit also worked on several other reality game shows such as Celebrity Fear Factor and the Shah Rukh Khan-hosted "Zor Ka Jhatka," which was shot entirely in Argentina.
Alongside his successful television career, Amit also co-runs his production company, NY Studios, with his wife Vineesha Arora Sarin, and is working towards making a difference in the entertainment industry.
