Liam Ansell Graham was born on December 7, 1987, in Glasgow, Scotland, to Lisa Ansell, a nurse, and Colin Graham, a television audio engineer. He has two siblings Madeleine White, a yoga instructor, and Ruairidh Graham, a camera assistant. He is of Scottish, Northwestern European, Irish, Norwegian, Swedish, and European Jewish descent. Graham moved to Perth, Western Australia when he was just 3 months old, with most of his childhood spent in the suburb of Leederville. As a child he was involved in activities such as swimming, tennis and drama classes, and graduated from Perth Modern School. He spent his teenage years in the small country town of Denmark, in the South West of Western Australia.
Being a sensitive child, when Graham was 7, his grandmother suggested acting classes to his parents to help with his confidence. Graham initially was petrified of being on stage, but was attending on the proviso that he could stop after the first term. Graham found himself starting to enjoy the class and signed up for a second term. This set him on the path to an acting career, and Graham has been on set since the age of 12, when he appeared in his first short film. Graham is best known for his TV series reg roles as Tyler in ABC's The Heights (2019), Damo in The Legend of Gavin Tanner (2014) (2014 - 2016), and Michael in the multi-award winning Danish/ Australian series Greenfield (2015), for which he received a Best Actor nomination for the West Australian Screen Awards. Recent notable feature films include OtherLife (2017), Ben Young's award winning Hounds of Love (2016), the film version of Greenfield (2019), for which he won Best Actor at the Nordic International Film Festival, and Bad Girl (2016), starring Samara Weaving. Graham has also worked on several short films including sci-fi short Council (2016), for which he won Best Actor at the 2017 'Next Gen Short Film Festival', as part of Fringe World.
In 2019 Graham appeared in Uncanny Annie, the Halloween episode of Blumhouse/ Hulu's horror anthology series, Into the Dark (2018). Projects due for release in 2020 include I Met a Girl (2020), starring Brenton Thwaites, and the Australian cinematic release of Amazon's hallucinogenic summer noir Burning Kiss (2018), in which he has the starring role of Max Woods.
In Graham's teenage years, he worked extensively in theatre and was heavily involved with the Western Australian Youth Theatre Company (WAYTCo.). Graham collaborated and starred in several original pieces over a three year period from 2007 to 2010.
A passionate philanthropist, Graham is a strong supporter of mental health awareness. Graham was involved in the WA Youth Mental Health and Homelessness Summit in 2015, organised by the Youth Affairs Council of WA (YACWA), and was engaged to read case studies to those attending the summit as a way of giving vulnerable people a 'voice'. Representatives from mental health and disability care organisations were in attendance, as well as the Minister for Mental Health, Disability Services and Child Protection. Graham also appears in the 2019 Think Mental Health advertising campaign.
